Perfect weekend getaway!

LOVE this hotel so much. Cannot say enough good things about the facilities and the staff. The adult pool is amazing and ANGEL and MARENA is the absolute best. Love sitting at the bar and listening to the waves. The food was excellent too! Can’t wait to come back.

Any other hotel but LaConcha, San Juan

My 10 year grand son rated Irma 2.5 star:
1: disappointingly small pools
2.no activities for children / not children friendly
3. As per sign beach and swimming dangerous undertow .
4. Extremely rough waves not swim able beach,
5 swim at your own risk as no Life guards even around pools.
6. No water sports/ activities
7.hortibke food , ate at Saragina
8. Shower handle contraption is difficult to figure out/ operate resulted in hot water minor burns.
My wife rated 3 star:
1, we had to wait 4 hits . We found out only as we kept asking front desk.
2. Coffee pot complicated to operate. Did not work and it took 1 hour to get a replacement.
2. Shower handle injured her hand as too complicated to operate and control water temp.
3. Hotel should warn in advance that beach is not guarded, dangerous undertows and waves. Actually not functional beach.
4. Alcohol drinks are priced exhorbitantly( $15 for glass of Prosecco, etc).
5 must warn customers in advance nothing for children .
here.
My impression. Absolute regret chossing Laconcha money, foid, cost wise.Wasted vacation.
Highly suggests to Rudy’s to exercise due diligence before coming here.

The room I reserved was not available, so they put us in a smaller room. Multiple parts of the resort were under construction, which meant certain areas were inaccessible and there was constant noise. At least one elevator was always out of service. They attempted to charge me for things they said would be free. I could go on, but it's not worth my time.

43 Nights at the La Concha Resort ! WONDERFUL!

*Room 1110 - Jan 15th to Feb 27 -2025 - another 6 week stay.
I have been a regular guest of the LaConcha Resort since just after hurricane Maria in 2017 – my time to travel from the North in Michigan is usually mid January until March, and I’ve stayed at the LaConcha Resort I’m guessing at least 280 nights since 2018, but this pales to the number that I’ve spent at the Condado Plaza for the 25 years prior to 2018, until I was notified by my friends at the Condado Plaza that they were not going to re-open after that horrible storm. This letter is long overdue, and explains so much that a typical traveler can take into consideration and perhaps make some changes in attitude or expectations.
Upon arrival to LaConcha, guests are greeted by friendly professional Valet, offering baggage service and instructions where to check into the Hotel – as should be expected.
Check in is always a breeze, I’m going out on a limb to suggest to all – BOOK DIRECTLY with the Hotel! I know some think they’re gonna miss a “deal”, or get better rates elsewhere, but if you want peace of mind and no drama, book direct. SO MANY complaints directed at the LaConcha should be RE-directed to YOUR booking choice! *(ie: Jet Blue/expedia/Travelocity..etc..) if you are lied to about the hotel, it’s your own fault. (again, so many complaints from people should be directed to the right people) Ms Marbella Ramanan has assisted me with my secure travel dates since day 1, and I have never had an issue with my reservation – a noteworthy mention is Mr. Rafael Descartes, concierge. Rafael is there, it seems night and day 24/7 to greet and answer questions, you name it, if it’s in the operation of the Hotel, or maybe even in the vicinity, Rafael can suggest ideas. He is a BIG part of the satisfaction I ALWAYS receive when traveling to LaConcha. Rafael is currently training Nelson Santiago, who is coming up in ranks and doing a GREAT job. Super friendly people!
My day to day activities are few – when first visiting the island back in the 70’s thru the 80’s, I visited the Rain Forest, did the Bacardi Tour (yawn), went on the bus excursions here and there, one year rented a car and drove the entire island over a few day road trip stopping in dorado/ponce, and other outlying towns, I enjoyed going in the mountains where locals would celebrate Sundays with an all day pig roast, or took the then Hotel sponsored buses to the Conquistador thru Loquillo Beach but now that’s done and I enjoy today a restful day by the pool.
Poolside at LaConcha – I suppose first it needs mentioning breakfast, omitted for the obvious renovations currently going on (January/February of 2025) but lets say that “if” OLA was fully operational I still may not have bothered, though they DO have amazing offerings for Breakfast just wasn’t my thing this year. Although Julianna (AQA) is amazing, so kind!
So back to poolside – a minor confession: one day back in 2017, while walking down Ashford Ave, I innocently “snuck” into the pool area at LaConcha just to see what’s what, and was honestly impressed with the pool layout, chair configurations, etc..but mostly that the POOL WAS HEATED! This made my decision to blow off the Condado Plaza that much easier (sorry CP). Now, in the years since, some years are good, others I get the “oh the part is broken”, or another excuse of why the water is cold. A friendly note to management; anyone knows that a pool heater may be expensive but the costs offset by the delighted guests will make that expense SO worth it. Perhaps training staff on how to properly use the equipment should be looked at, or specify only a certain person control that feature?
Speaking of this – management.
I’ve met Miguel Rivera (Mike- Hotel General Manager) a few times over the years, just in a friendly satisfied guest way, never to complain – though I’ve been born and schooled in Germany, in Hotel and the Food Industry I am so very satisfied and excited to see Mike’s future of the Hotel.
Along with Mike, I need to mention another fantastic recent addition to the LaConcha team, Edgard Santiago. (operations manager)
Edgard is visible, almost daily, I have not come across one issue that I would even think of bringing up to Edgard, other than “thank You Sir, keep up the great work”!
The pool staff are incredible! I appreciate the special touches provided as the staff see my age/my needs. Mostly, Luis Gotay who I believe oversees the entire group at the main pool, but individually, who act upon themselves to make my stay meaningful are Anthony Torres, Gabriel, Dorian, Suhail, and Karla. *(did I mention “DORIAN”?) Whether it’s as simple as needing an extra towel, or maybe a bottle of water, or even the walkby “how are you doing?” it means SO much to this old man. *note – even Richard, who quietly walks the pool areas with his dustpan and garbage collection is the most kind person you can chat with, Richard keeps the pool area pristine. no judgements here.
Some of my favorite people are from Solera, poolside restaurant – Lunch.
RUBY Cifuentes, ruby ruby ruby! Since day 1 Ruby has been “my gal”. Her professionalism, her caring for what she is doing is apparent. Ruby’s service is exceptional. It’s rare to end up sincerely “caring” for someone you meet at one of your vacation Hotels year after year and them becoming more family than just an acquaintance.
Carlos – yeah bro miss you too! *(carlos is no longer at Laconcha-long story/good guy regardless!)
Vladimir – nice to see you hanging through, always a pleasure to chat with while he’s running all over the pool serving everyones demands
All of the staff at Solero would be hit hard if Luis (the runner) was absent – Luis is amazing!
Some days I enjoy a peaceful, no loud music day at the Adult Pool (which if I had my way the entire Hotel would be Adult only) and many Thank You’s go to Angel and Ura who not only do a great job at bartending, they also are the ones that create those mouthwatering “teaser shots” passed out randomly throughout the day at the pool. The special touches of mini-scoops of coconut or mango flavored ice cream samples bring a smile too! *I watched as Angel gave one of his infamous “how-to” drink classes to a group of women, quite the show!
I need to mention one person in particular who makes a difference – VIRNA.
When I first saw Virna, (years ago) she was in the main pool one morning speaking to one guest trying to educate him on the exercises she was providing, going thru repetitions and explaining the muscles being impacted, etc..it was quite a show. This may have even been thru the Covid years, as I was still a regular (at least 30 night stay) visitor to the Hotel. As years went on, I noticed Virna being more and more involved with other activities, and in speaking with her (limited English) which was wonderful she would express her concern for people’s health and well-being. Now that there’s a top rated Spa in the Hotel, I believe Virna is connected to that, regardless her presence is well felt.
One other Note – Moises (Moses?) I think someone typed his name badge wrong – lol – regardless, Moses is the stern, yet oh so friendly security guard watching over the main pool most days (clone him!) Moses greets every guest who walks thru the doors from the lobby to the pool in a professional manner, even walks with to briefly explain the pool area, how to access the beach, the facilities, he is a great addition I commend staff on, whoever thought of finding a guy like him should be noticed! There was one incident where one late afternoon at the main pool a large group (started with 8-grew to almost 30) of people who were NOT guests of the Hotel began crowding the pool area, loud kids jumping and screaming and running thru the pool area but after maybe only 30 minutes Moses corralled this group and evicted them all from the pool – birthday cake too! Thank you Moses!
Evenings are always best in the Casino is my motto!
Lets start at the Casino entry, I sincerely appreciate the security upon entrance. These guys I wouldn’t mess with. It’s apparent they take the job seriously. I wouldn’t think a guy like me would need to go thru a screening like the airport to throw my money away, but that’s where we live today – it’s all good.
My main enjoyment has always been cards – Jenni, Leticia (pfff), Cesar, to mention a few, are some of the kindest and best dealers I have known. Frankly, everyone in the casino knows what their doing, thank you to Jonathan (boomba), Charlie, “Moustache” (ha) and Rocky – with a very special THANK YOU to Rafael Marrero – and Nashivette, you have a very tight knit operation there, and much thanks to Alexander for always finding me to get my drink when needed. I’m looking forward to the Casino renovation next January.
** a few “guest issue” complaints – (not directed at the Hotel or Staff)
#1 - most children are brats - do you "really" need to bring them? seems like a wasted effort to me.
Housekeeping – although I don’t require much more than making my bed in the morning – I appreciated all the friendliest staff that came to service my room starting about 8am every morning. *(Esther) It is possible maybe once or 2 times during my 43 night stay they may have missed me, its not a big deal. if you live like a pig, don't blame the housekeeping.
Smoking – people who refuse to abide by rules bother me – smoking is smoking – just know that YOU are what ruin a good time. you stink.period.
Poolside feeding pidgeons – I know many guests live in compromised surroundings, and are accustomed to rodents - but please try not to ruin it for us who live without poop all over our belongings feeding the birds should stay in new york.
Loud noise/music – during the renovation, it’s a known fact there will be noise – be blessed you have ears to hear with, some people are deaf. Noise is not always a bad thing. If you’re blessed to stay during last Sunday of the Month, you may enjoy the Heineken free music next door in the park which is kinda loud, but ends by 10pm – it’s Puerto Rico – enjoy it or stay home. If you’re fortunate enough to experience a wedding while at the Hotel, cherish it! The wedding venues around the pools or 12th floor are fun, and you might even make new friends!
Nightclub Noise/”Boombox” ? FYI – what do you expect when you keep your sliding doorwall OPEN during the night? I have NEVER been kept awake by loud music. Ever. Complaining shows your ignorance.
Children – you made them , you deal with them – if they are out of your sight poolside, and they are near me screaming “Mom! Mom” , I will tell them things they’ll need a psychiatrist for.
Pets – I pray that the Autograph criteria limit the acceptance of dogs, or increase the fee imposed to have animals sleeping on mattresses used by humans. It’s as if you’re too cheap to pay for a dogsitter. *(and your dog isn't that cute)
Bottom Line – a GREAT Hotel, you’ll enjoy as much as you want to, and be as happy as you know how – some folk just should not vacation - you know who you are.. This isn’t fantasy island, lol. My comments are my own and felt necessary finally as I have read too many mistruths or unique negative comments since Covid that I KNOW are not true, and I feel obligated to my new “family” at LaConcha to set things straight.
I am not Bonvoy backed, no idea how that works, either. I pay cash. People should stop with the “elite” attitudes. *especially at check-in - When you book your vacation, you should book DIRECT. And stop bringing your children lol.
THIS IS A VERY CLEAN RESORT! I am confused at the negative remarks from some idiots looking for a freebie or handout by complaining - yes, maybe one elevator was not operational, but so what? what the hell is your hurry?
OVERALL, I would HIGHLY recommend the LaConcha Resort to any normal thinking person – humility and respect for others goes a LONG way.
Super big hugs and thanks again to Marbella Ramanan and Ernesto Torres and Nashivette Vaillant – see you all in 2026!
Peter
