We can not recommend it!
Load shedding - the lodge can't help it. But! It could either install an emergency power unit or at least provide lighting means. Neither has been the case, so we sat completely in the dark at night.
When you turned on hot water, the line started to rumble and hiss briefly, but nothing came out except a little air. So take a cold shower or wash cold on the basin.
The room was totally small and very dark in itself. The last light took away a palm leaf from the outside, as did the view from the balcony of the river.
The whole house and its inventory was eventually carried together from somewhere. As a guest it really slain you, as lovingly as it was put together and meant by the owner. Everything was very old. You had the feeling that something would jump out of your cushions at any time.
For one day, the lodge may just leave. We were there for 3 days and with all the grievances we were glad we were gone!
At the breakfast table you sit by the river. The staff were not very attentive and did not check and ask regularly.
In the final invoice, 10% of the invoice was added as a tip from the outset. So, I'd like to decide for myself if and how much to tip.
The price/performance ratio is absolutely not given. Not even for a day's stay.
We made the manager and also the owner aware of the negative points we listed, but there was no reaction. He reduced the bill by at least 10% in tips.
But the location on the river is good. The pool is nice and the food tasted great too. There was even a lookup!

Another Fantastic Stay!
On this trip my sister and I decided to just stay at the Lodge and not do a safari as we just wanted to relax and see what animals we could spot from the veranda, we were not disappointed! We saw hippos, elephants, impala, crocodiles, warthogs, water buck and many bird species. An absolutely wonderful 4 days.
Our room was clean and very comfortable with all that we needed and was beautifully made up and cleaned daily. The food served at breakfast and dinner was very tasty and plentiful, we had some traditional dishes that we possibly would not have chosen, the food was served hot and nicely presented and breakfast is now served on the terrace which was a lovely addition, especially being joined by a very playful solitary elephant each morning!
But what really sets River House Lodge apart is the wonderful staff. Hard working, polite, kind and friendly who always greet you with a smile and ask about your day or if you need anything.
I’ve read some negative reviews on here and for me it seems like they are describing somewhere else! This place is not a shiny, faceless corporate hotel, it’s homely, friendly and has a wonderful ambience providing a wonderfully authentic African experience! I can’t wait to go back soon.

An awesome pool with a view .
Rooms and bathroom were average and the aircon wasn't working well.
